This tip does not work if you use the Courier font. This is a monospaced (or non-proportional) font which is a typewriter-like, fixed-width font, and each letter occupies the same amount of space. Other computer fonts are variable-width (or proportional) and the software adjusts the spacing automatically. (This is why since the advent of computers, only one space follows a period, not two.)

Use the text inspector to adjust line spacing. Here’s what Help says:
Single sets line spacing to single-spaced. The space between lines is proportional to font size. Use this when the relative distance between ascenders and descenders should remain fixed. Ascenders are the parts of letters that extend to the top of the line. Descenders are the parts of letters that extend below the line.
Double sets line spacing to double-spaced. The space between lines is proportional to font size. Use this when the relative distance between ascenders and descenders should remain fixed.
Multiple allows you to set line spacing values between single and double, or greater than double. The space between lines is proportional to font size. Use this when the relative distance between ascenders and descenders should remain fixed.
At Least sets the distance from one baseline to the next so that the spacing will never be less than the value you set, but it may be larger for larger fonts in order to prevent overlapping text lines. Use this when the distance between lines should remain fixed, but overlap is not desired if the text should get large.
Between increases the space between the lines, instead of increasing the height of the lines. In contrast, double-spacing doubles the height of each line.
